Denim Reinvented For the Fall/Winter 2016 Runways
Denim is a huge part of American culture. Through the decades it has been constantly reinvented into everything from jeans and button-up shirts, to overalls and trench coats. The classic fabric was even given a luxury makeover during a premium denim period in the early 2000’s where great names like Citizens of Humanity and 7 For All Mankind were born.
For the Fall/Winter 2016 collections, a vast array of international designers have taken this simple fabric, and created pieces worthy enough to be strutted down the runways. See how these designers have taken denim to new heights with top picks from our IfCHIC editors.
MiuMiu – One of our favorite brands, known for feminine silhouettes and ladylike appearances, utilized denim in so many different ways. There were chambray shirts with western pockets, dramatic denim maxi skirts, long denim trenches and even tailored denim jackets with princess seams. If so many pieces were seen on the MiuMiu runway, you know this is going to be a prominent trend next season.
Public School – After winning the Swarovski young men’s designer award from the CFDA in 2013, everyone has kept an eye on each new collection from this NYC-born company. Their fashion-forward antics can definitely be seen on the denim pieces they dressed their models in. From rodeo-esque fringed jeans, to oversized, frayed denim tops, these pieces are a far cry from the typical pair of skinny jeans we’re use to. If you consider yourself to be a fashion maven, you’re definitely going to want to try on these fall/winter designs.
Karen Walker – You can count on Karen Walker for well-tailored items that you will treasure for many seasons to come. We loved how she cut denim so that it falls against the body beautifully and elegantly. Some of our favorite pieces were a dark denim sheath dress that’s lovely on its own or layered with turtlenecks and knit vests, as well as a high-waist pants with a loose fit. What’s great about Karen Walker denim items are that they can work well for day to night transitions and looks terrific no matter what type of footwear you decide to step into.
Moschino – Famously known for outrageous and playful designs with nods to previous decades, when you watch a Moschino show, expect something bold and memorable. Models took their walks while wearing tied-up,button-down, denim shirts, frayed and distressed denim jeans, belted shirt dresses and the tiniest daisy duke shorts that would make you blush. So hot! We loved how traditional denim pieces were given a quick refresher, simply by how you cinch it, fold it or tie it up.
Street Style – Not only was denim spotted as a hot trend on the F/W 2016 catwalks, but attendees could not get enough of it either. Tons of fresh denim looks could be seen allover, from wide, cropped jeans and intensely frayed hems, to 70’s-inspired, high waist jeans, to a blast from the past, flared jeans. With so many options, you’ll definitely want to give your wardrobe a denim makeover.
